Speed conversion combines length and time
CalcOS relates each supported speed to meters per second. Exact length definitions and fixed-duration time units are combined before the result is rounded for display.
The converter handles compatible numerical speeds; it does not infer travel time, distance, direction, or acceleration.
Common speed definitions
| Unit | Exact m/s relationship | Context |
|---|---|---|
| kilometer per hour | 5/18 m/s | metric road speed |
| mile per hour | 0.44704 m/s | mile-based road speed |
| foot per second | 0.3048 m/s | engineering |
| knot | 463/900 m/s | marine and aviation |
Why Mach is excluded
Mach number depends on the local speed of sound, which changes with medium and thermodynamic conditions. CalcOS will not present Mach as a constant-factor speed conversion without those contextual inputs.
