How to convert horsepower to kilowatts
Useful for engines, motors, vehicles, pumps, and machinery specifications. This page uses mechanical horsepower—exactly 550 international foot pound-force per second.
kW = hp(I) × 0.745699871582
Worked example: 1 hp(I) = 0.745699871582 kW.

Which horsepower does this page use?
The benchmark “hp” intent is resolved explicitly as mechanical horsepower based on 550 ft·lbf/s. It does not silently substitute metric horsepower, electrical horsepower, or boiler horsepower.
