How to convert kilowatts to horsepower
Useful when comparing SI power ratings with mechanical horsepower specifications. This page uses mechanical horsepower—exactly 550 international foot pound-force per second.
hp(I) = kW × 1.3410220896
Worked example: 1 kW = 1.3410220896 hp(I).
Kilowatts to Horsepower conversion table
| kilowatt (kW) | mechanical horsepower (550 ft·lbf/s) (hp(I)) |
|---|---|
| 1 | 1.3410220896 |
| 5 | 6.70511044798 |
| 10 | 13.410220896 |
| 25 | 33.5255522399 |
| 50 | 67.0511044798 |
| 100 | 134.10220896 |
Which horsepower does this page use?
The benchmark “hp” intent is resolved explicitly as mechanical horsepower based on 550 ft·lbf/s. It does not silently substitute metric horsepower, electrical horsepower, or boiler horsepower.
